Eastern European Adventure, Day 12: Prague

We headed out at around 10 a.m. and walked to Prague Castle. We wandered around for a while and then saw the changing of the guard at noon. Hot tip (hat tip to Tom Gillespie): you don't have to pay admission to just walk around the grounds and not enter the buildings, so that's what we did.

Some views of the city from the Castle.

The changing of the guard is happening behind that fence there. You'll have to trust me on this one.
We tried to go to the Deer Moat, but it was closed for "technical reasons," which upon further investigation appeared to be massive construction. We wandered around the gardens north of the castle wall, then we walked north into the neighborhood adjacent neighborhood and ate lunch at an Indian restaurant. Joel was pleased about the buffet, and Molly ordered off the menu and had a good meal.

Then we wandered to a bar and had our normal beer/Aperol spritz combo (this particular bar had a gigantic stack of firewood, and they were unloading even more firewood while we were having a drink.

Then we headed to Stromovka Park, or City Park. In the park, we watched the swans at a little pond and then had a piece of key lime pie at a restaurant.

Then we made our way through an abandoned amusement park on the east end of City Park to the Cross Club, which was not yet open. We didn't know for sure how to kill an hour, but we happened to find a bowling alley, and when we arrived, Joel said, "If you'd told me 15 minutes ago that we'd be having fun right now, I wouldn't have believed you."

We bowled two lines and each had a small beer, and the total bill came to $7 with tip. We went back to the Cross Club and ate all the pizza and drank all the beer.

The Cross Club is real cool.

We watched a guy play some kind-of surf rock tunes for a little while and then we took the #17 tram home, grabbed some groceries, and then watched half of 2001: A Space Odyssey before we went to sleep.
